RVPRI Clayton House

Clayton house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. It was saved from demolition in 1969 by a group of concerned citizens that formed the Fort Smith Heritage Foundation board of directors. Clayton house is owned by the Heritage Foundation, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, and is dependent on donations for operations.

The house opened in 1977 as a museum and has been in continual operation as a museum since that time. It is home to a collection of Clayton family belongings, including the family bible, Mr. Clayton's walking stick, Mrs. Clayton's desk and tea table, and various photos. It is also home to a fantastic collection of Victorian furniture and books. A gorgeous piano dating to 1874, is housed in one of the formal parlors and is still playable.

Guests are invited to come in and experience a taste of life in the 1880's and 1890's

Clayton purchased the house, which had been built during the 1850's, in 1876. He had he house remodeled and enlarged and the family occupied the home in 1882. The house has eight rooms, each containing an ornate coal-burning fireplace. The servants' quarters and kitchen have been reconstructed on the original foundation.

Reports of an apparition of a woman that have been seen on different occasions. Reports of a room on the 2^nd floor that people get “creepy feelings” (during our tour the women had all felt this feeling as a heaviness in their chest, but not during the investigation itself). Reports of doors slamming and the sounds of boots stomping in the room as well. Other reports are of people being touched and having their hair pulled and hearing music.

1^st portion of the investigation the entire team stayed as one group, with the clients remaining in the home in an office on the first floor. We made our way throughout the home with little incident. While in the parlor there were some shadows that were noticed and at one point Adrian had seen a low lying shadow running along the floor about cat sized which was interesting due to the report given by the client. We did hear audible cat meows and one investigator thought she had heard what sounded like a little girl singing. After we moved upstairs we again moved throughout the home with little incident. We noticed that there were loose windows that made a sound that could easily be mistaken for the sound of boots walking on the floor.

2^nd portion of the investigation. We split into two teams with one team staying in the home and one moving out to the board room and then alternating. While in the home neither team had any experiences. While in the board room Adrian had noticed that there were indeed cats outside the home and under the parlor window at the side of the home.

We enjoyed our investigation of the Clayton house and would love to investigate this home further. While our personal experiences where only slight, we did collect some good evidence to support the claims of the clients and would also seem corroborate the evidence from previous investigations. With 6 EVP’s caught in this investigation it would seem that there is indeed paranormal activity in the Clayton house.

No visual anything was caught on our video camera's but we did catch 2 interesting audio captures from them.

While in another area of the home we hear a knock in this room where we were told that someone was grabbed and that the bed was "shoved" by something unseen. The knock is real light and you may be better off wearing headphones when listening to this clip.

In this clip Adrian and Don were the only investigators in the home, on playback we heard a woman's voice. Although we do not understand what she is saying we understand that we caught a few female EVP's in the home and believe this to be the same entity.
