History

The KFSM building is in the old Carnegie library building.  The Fort Smith Public Library's beginnings can be traced to the formation of the Fortnightly Club on October 7, 1891. The library was formally opened on July 27, 1892 in the Belle Grove school building. There were 1,100 books on the shelves. By 1902 the library had grown to be the largest public library in the state of Arkansas.   In 1904 the Fort Smith Reading Room Association and the Fortnightly Library Association formed a permanent organization, named the Fort Smith Public Library Association, whose purpose was to raise money for a new library building. After securing a grant from the Carnegie Foundation, the library was able to build the first Carnegie library in the state. The building, constructed in 1907 on North 13th street, was built on the site of the house in which Judge Isaac Parker died.

Reported paranormal activity includes sounds, doors opening, and full body apparitions

Report

We were very excited to gain access to and investigate KFSM which was in our top 3 sites we wanted to investigate from the beginning of RVPRI. We had to wait until after the 10 o'clock newscast before we could start the investigation and we were there early enough to set up and then we were able to watch the news live. Afterwards we split into 2 teams of 3 and investigated all areas of the KFSM building, to include the Carnegie library portion of the building, the newsroom and the offices. Each team had eye witnessed a shadow from 1 to 2 feet high around the weather desk in the newsroom that seem to move towards the anchor desk and 1 team member had seen a shadow moving under some chairs in the same room. No other personal experience was noted and we wrapped up our investigation. After careful review of all our data we have 14 recorded audio anomalies that along with personal experiences during the investigation we believe that this site has actual paranormal activity.

The add on portion of the building where the newsroom is in.

The stairwell where the reported sightings were and sounds of foot steps as well.

Ghost's we're not afraid of but this guy terrified us all, must be that big ole camera he had. Thank you Wes for hanging out with us.

Area in which we had seen a small shadow.

The new news anchors?

Or is she the new anchor?

We were discussing sounds that we were hearing and wondering if they were things falling off the large tree in the front yard of KFSM and while we were talking we get this EVP saying "tall trees"

Tall Trees

In this EVP Tina was asking where everyone wanted to sit down and she asked if anyone wanted to sit in the blue chairs and she got an answer, but not from one of our team.

No

I have no idea why but a name was given in this EVP, but we did not ask.

Jim

They always tell us to get out. This was caught in the upstairs bathroom area where an employee of KFSM said that the bathroom door just opened all by itself once on her.

Get Out

And after we had been there for the investigation and was finally wrapping it up we catch this EVP saying "hey you" like it was trying to get our attention. Sorry fella it's quitting time you should have tried sooner.

Hey You
